First & Last – by C. Atticus
the heartbeat echo
of her laughter
shimmers in yours
loud and boisterous
so joyfully unapologetic
my heart swells
when the spirit
of my love for her
settles deep into you
Stardust gashes
from the same
sharp wit
that made
a teenaged
cocoon of chaos
brim with infatuation
I watched her
grow into her smile
snow on her eyelashes
made hazel eyes sparkle
now you are too
to remind myself
that change can
be so familiar sometimes
I have to remind
myself that
the eternal swirling
of that first love
is not some
hidden agenda
but the nurtured
fires of a passion
transferred souls
sometimes I watch
green flick to a speckled hazel
just for a blinks’ moment
see that 17-year-old
who spent housed
my ballerina box
soul in her hands
stashed in the sheets
of an RVs queen bed
then the green
like the reaching hands
of the Maine forests
tells me what an honor
to love again
like your very first
