About Windham Free Press

Windham Free Press is a youth-led community journalism, arts, and storytelling project produced through the Youth Promise ACME (Arts, Communication & Media Entrepreneurs) program at Project Imo.

Through both our monthly print zine and online publication, Windham Free Press provides a platform for local stories, creative expression, community voices, and youth perspectives. Our goal is to highlight the people, places, ideas, events, and issues that shape life in Windham and the surrounding region.

Windham Free Press is independent, youth-led, and intended to encourage respectful dialogue, civic engagement, creativity, and community connection.

Youth are writers, photographers, poets, and editors on this community project. Through this hands-on experience, students develop practical skills in journalism, writing, photography, graphic design, publishing, communications, and media production while contributing meaningful work to the community.

Community Submissions

Windham Free Press welcomes submissions from community members of all ages, including articles, photography, artwork, poetry, opinion pieces, local history, and other creative content. All submissions are reviewed by our youth editorial staff before publication.

To preserve authenticity, originality, and the educational mission of the publication, Windham Free Press does not accept content generated wholly or primarily through artificial intelligence (AI) tools. Submitted work should reflect the voice, creativity, perspective, and lived experiences of the author or artist.

Produced at Idea Forge Studios

Windham Free Press is produced at Idea Forge Studios, Project Imo’s creative learning and production space located at 54 North Street in downtown Willimantic. From writing and layout to photography, graphic design, printing, and digital publishing, students gain experience using professional tools and workflows to bring each issue to life.

This work is made possible through the generosity of community supporters, local partners, donors, volunteers, and grant funders who believe in the power of youth voice, civic engagement, arts education, and community storytelling.
